SOCIAL CAUSE

The HOW team is super excited to be partnering with “The Home for Little Wanderers” as our Boston-based local charity in 2018! Here’s how YOU – our HOW Community – can get involved onsite in supporting this amazing cause:

The Home for Little Wanderers is so grateful to HOW Design Live and the design community for hosting us this week. There are over 64,000 children each year facing issues of abuse and neglect, just in Massachusetts alone. Additionally there are so many families struggling for resources to provide their children with a better future. Each dollar raised contributes to residencies, schools, and therapeutic community-based programs for children in need. We promise to take care of children from the time they are born until the age of 22. We never give up on kids, and make sure they never give up on themselves.
Onsite attendees will have the opportunity to get involved in a hands-on project and use decorative paper to create a design. The design will then be mounted between two pieces of glass or paper. The main objective is for attendees to experiment with transparency and layering to create a dynamic composition. This artwork can then be donated to the Little Wanderer’s and will be used in our auction at our major Voices and Visions Gala May 23. This event focuses on the art projects created by children in our care.

To help us in our efforts you can make a contribution, some examples are:

  • $40 = New art supplies for our classrooms
  • $60 = Backpack for starting a new school year
  • $75 = New “welcome kit” including new bedding, toothbrush and hygiene products
  • $100 = New instrument for music class, or sports equipment for after school activities
  • $300 = A week at Summer camp

For more details about the Gala, and the artwork display, please contact Paige Oldaker at poldaker@thehome.org.

Paige Oldaker with “The Home for Little Wanderers” shared who they are in her words: “We are the oldest child welfare agency in the country. Started initially by Abigail Adams, we have grown from an orphanage into a much larger organizations providing residencies, schools, and community-based programs to children and families in need. Each year we touch over 12,000 lives to ensure safety, security, and success. Providing mental, emotional, physical and behavioral supports to children is what we are most passionate about. We currently have over 25 different outreach programs, and have staff present in 90 Boston public Schools. We also recently have launched a Permanency initiative to heavily train our staff and foster parents to help us to identify forever homes for these wonderful kids. Our mission is to ensure the healthy behavioral, emotional, social and educational development and physical well-being of children and families living in at-risk circumstances.”

The Home for Little Wanderers” provides a seamless continuum of vital programs and services for every stage of child and family development. For more than 200 years, we’ve earned a reputation for doing whatever it takes to strengthen vulnerable families and keep children safe in their own communities, even when they don’t have family support.

Serving children and youth from birth to 22, The Home makes a positive impact on over 7,000 lives each year through a network of services including behavioral health, therapeutic residential and special education, adoption and foster care. In addition, a number of innovative programs provide specialized assistance to youth transitioning to adulthood from state systems of care.

We continuously measure the impact of our work to develop and enhance our programs. We never give up on children. And we don’t let children give up on themselves. By advocating on behalf of each and every one of them, we strengthen our families, our communities and our Commonwealth.
